World Breastfeeding Week: 3 Essentials For A Successful Breastfeeding Journey

August 1 to August 7 marks the celebration of #worldbreastfeedingweek. This annual campaign celebrates and raises awareness about the benefits and struggles many women experience while breastfeeding.

This week, we come together to support breastfeeding practices and normalize breastfeeding, and women’s right to choose the best way to feed their babies.

3 TOOLS FOR A SUCCESSFUL BREASTFEEDING JOURNEY

1. Nursing Bras

Nursing Bras at CARRY

We recommend at least three nursing bras in your closet before your due date. These can be purchased at any time during your pregnancy, or during your eighth month of pregnancy. You need at least two day-time bras and one sleep bra. Remember that leakage can happen at any time of day, so sleeping in a bra with nursing pads will keep you mess-free.

Nursing bras are essential for your breastfeeding and postpartum journey; they provide the flexibility to support changing breasts as they fill up and let down (which can be up to 2 cup sizes throughout the day!) They provide intentional and easy access with clips or pull-aside access.

Need help finding the right nursing bra for you? Request a complimentary bra fitting in-store or virtually. We carry a full size range, including Full-Cup styles, from top brands like Bravado Designs and Cake Maternity.

2. Washable and reusable leakproof nursing pads
Reusable Nursing Pads

In our opinion, these pads are an essential. Designed with four layers for the ultimate leak protection. They mould to your breast, fit discreetly into any bra, and create a flattering shape. Most importantly, the pads can absorb up to 6 tsp of liquid. The pads keep you dry and protect against leaks and nipple irritation.

3. Nipple Balm

Nipple BalmIt’s no surprise that your nipples go through a lot during breastfeeding. Nipple balm helps to calm and soothe irritated nipples, and when used frequently, can be preventative of cracking and discomfort. Both Mama Mio Skincare and HATCH Beauty feature natural options that are safe for you and baby.

It provides relief and moisture, all while protecting the skin. The best practice is to start applying your nipple cream twice a day the week before you expect to deliver.
