CARRY Transparency: How we Make Our In-House Line

At Carry we believe in slow fashion, especially during pregnancy, when every piece in your closet matters. We design quality clothing that lasts - we truly believe the more mindful we all are about what we wear, the less waste goes to our landfills. All pieces by CARRY are locally produced (which allows us to oversee them every step of the way) by individuals we know by name and that are a true extension of our team.

Keeping it Local

Our products are made using a just-in-time model, carefully only producing for our demand to minimize any waste. From start to finish, sustainable and ethical practices are top of mind. We are partnered with a local Toronto factory that ensures our workers are paid fairly, have benefits, and are in safe working conditions. This team helps us bring our visions to life by using the highest standards of production.

Design

We look for opportunities to add features like hidden nursing access or pockets to create the best quality clothing during pregnancy and beyond. We closely follow current silhouettes ensuring in-fashion options at every step of the way.

Sourcing Materials

Sourcing high quality, eco-friendly fabrics is as important as the designs themselves. We use fabrics that feel good on your body, that make you want to wear them over and over, becoming your motherhood favourites. We prioritize fabrics that minimize impact on the environment, are certified organic, and don't require a lot of water consumption to produce. We use an array of eco-friendly choices;  rayon from bamboo, lyocell, loops of hemp, and GOTS certified organic cotton,  many of which  are also certified STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®.

Production

Bringing our designs to life involves making a pattern, and cutting and sewing a first sample. Ensuring a fit-perfect garment takes time, patience, and multiple samples. We test these samples on different body types, and test each of the fabrics' reactions to different styling techniques and cleaning processes. This is the most technical and important part of the process ensuring quality garments that fit in all the right ways to take you through pregnancy with ease. In two to three weeks, the goods are cut, sewn and pressed, ready for delivery to our downtown location.

Presenting CARRY

The last step in presenting CARRY is our photoshoot. We use models who are currently in their pregnancy journey. It’s essential that we use authentic bodies to showcase our clothing, and our team behind the scenes is made up of female artists and collaborators.

Our mission in creating CARRY is to produce a line of essential pieces that you can feel good about purchasing. Both in how it feels while wearing it physically and the intention behind how it’s made.
